About the Double Rifle Society

The Double Rifle Society is an organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the firearms traditionally used on safaris in destinations like Africa and India. These include vintage black powder single-shot and double rifles, modern single-shot and double rifles, and bolt-action magazine rifles.

Founded in 1995, the Society began as a group of friends united by their shared enthusiasm for traditional safari firearms. Over the past three decades, its founding members have embarked on numerous trips to Africa, hunting plains and dangerous game with double, magazine, and single-shot rifles.

In January 2024, the founders formalized the Society and began expanding its membership to welcome like-minded firearms and safari enthusiasts from around the globe. By the summer of 2024, we launched a Facebook group and Instagram page, which quickly gained popularity. The overwhelming response revealed a vibrant community of hunters and shooters who share our passion for traditional safari firearms.

The Double Rifle Society is guided by it's Mission Statement:

Double Rifle Society Mission Statement

The Double Rifle Society exists to uphold and advance three foundational pillars that define our mission and values:

Education, Entertainment and Inspiration, and Hunting Conservation.

1. Educate.

We aim to educate enthusiasts about the history, mechanics, and traditions of double rifles and other classic safari firearms. This includes promoting safe, ethical, and effective hunting practices across the globe. We also actively advocate for hunters’ rights at all levels, standing firmly against illogical restrictions and unscientific hunting bans.

2. Entertain & Inspire.

Through storytelling, shared experiences, and imagery, we celebrate the heritage of safari firearms and the timeless spirit of the hunt. We believe in the power of narrative to teach, connect, and preserve a rich cultural tradition rooted in respect for wildlife, wild places, and our hunting traditions.

3. Hunting Conservation.

We support sustainable, science-based hunting conservation through research, education, and community-driven programs. The DRS is committed to actively fundraising and supporting wildlife conservation efforts that ensure a lasting future for hunters, wild game, and the ecosystems they inhabit.
