Double Rifle Society

The Double Rifle Society is dedicated to preserving and advancing the rich heritage of the firearms traditionally carried on safari in storied destinations such as Africa and India. While our core focus is the nitro express–era double rifle, we also embrace the broader family of classic safari arms—including vintage black powder single- and double-barrel rifles and select modern single-shot and bolt-action rifles. More than a preservationist organization, we actively advocate for and promote the continued use of these firearms in the field, ensuring their legacy remains alive and relevant.

Founded in 1995, the Society began as a group of friends united by their shared enthusiasm for traditional safari firearms, particularly double rifles. In January 2024, the founders expanded the Society to include like-minded firearms and safari enthusiasts from around the globe.  The overwhelming response revealed a vibrant community of hunters and shooters who share our passion for double rifles. In 2026, the Society will formalize the membership structure, allowing us to bring more value to our members, and further the goals of the Double Rifle Society.

The Double Rifle Society is guided by its Mission Statement and Foundational Pillars:

Double Rifle Society Mission Statement

The Double Rifle Society is dedicated to preserving and advancing the rich heritage of the double rifle and the sporting traditions it represents. We advocate for the use of double rifles in the field and at the range. We promote appreciation for the art, history, and craftsmanship of these iconic firearms while fostering a community of responsible hunters, collectors, and enthusiasts.  Through fellowship, education, advocacy, and support of sustainable use conservation, we honor the legacy of the sporting rifle and ensure its place in the field and culture for generations to come.

Foundational Pillars

We strive to uphold and advance four foundational pillars to achieve our mission: Fellowship, Education, Advocacy, and Conservation.

1. Fellowship

The Double Rifle Society is a private membership organization that unites double rifle enthusiasts, collectors, hunters, and industry professionals under a shared passion for these classic firearms. Through exclusive member-only social gatherings, shooting events, and organized hunts, the Society fosters camaraderie, tradition, and the continued appreciation of the double rifle’s unique heritage and purpose.

2. Education

We educate enthusiasts about the history, mechanics, and traditions of double rifles while promoting safe, ethical, and effective hunting and shooting practices worldwide. Through storytelling, shared experiences, and powerful imagery, we celebrate the heritage of safari firearms and the enduring spirit of the hunt. We believe strong narratives can teach, connect, and preserve a rich cultural tradition grounded in respect for our hunting and shooting heritage.

3. Advocacy

The Double Rifle Society affirms that the rights to hunt and to lawfully own firearms are human rights. We advocate for balanced, evidence-based policies that preserve ethical hunting traditions, ensure responsible access to firearms for legitimate sporting and self-defense use, and protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Through engagement with policymakers, support for conservation-focused initiatives, and the unification of our community around shared values, the Society works to protect both the heritage and the future of hunting and lawful firearm ownership.

4. Conservation

We champion sustainable, science-based conservation through research, education, and community-driven initiatives. We oppose arbitrary and unscientific hunting restrictions that undermine proven wildlife management practices. Through targeted fundraising and direct support, we invest in conservation efforts that protect wild game, preserve healthy ecosystems, and ensure a strong future for ethical hunters and outdoor traditions.
